Deposits & Consultation fees
To provide every client with careful, accurate service, all appointments include a deposit/consultation fee that is due at the time of your first visit.
Each fitting appointment involves time, expertise, and careful evaluation of your garment. During your visit, I assess fit, discuss your needs, and pin/mark the garment as needed to determine the best alteration plan.
Many customers ask how much certain alterations cost before coming in. While some simple alterations can be estimated generally, many garments—especially dresses requiring fitting—cannot be accurately priced until they are seen in person, on you, and properly pinned. The actual cost can vary depending on the construction, fabric, fit, and amount of work needed.
After the fitting, I am able to provide a quote right away in most cases. For more complex alterations, I may need additional time to carefully assess the work involved, and a final quote will usually be provided by the next business day or within two business days, depending on workload.
This process ensures that pricing is fair, accurate, and based on what truly needs to be done—so you are not overcharged, and the work is not underestimated.
Deposits: Due to previous instances of completed garments not being picked up or paid for, a deposit or full payment is required to cover material and time. Deposit fees vary based on the scope of work required and will be applied toward your total balance if you decide to proceed with the alterations.
If you decide NOT to move forward with alterations, the appointment will be treated as a consultation and the garment will be restored to its original state. This is done to avoid liability for potential garment damage, maintain professional standards, and prevent misunderstandings regarding alteration work. If another tailor follows existing markings or adjustments and the garment is later damaged or does not fit properly, the original seamstress may still be held responsible. For this reason, reverting the garment reduces the risk of misinterpretation and protects all parties involved.
Consultation fees are as follows:
-
Casual garments — $35
-
Formal dresses, bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses, etc. — $50-$75
-
Wedding dresses — $100
-
P.S. Consultation fees are required only when a fitting appointment takes place and the customer is in the fitting room wearing the garment for evaluation. I do not charge for simple verbal inquiries or “over-the-counter” consultations.
You’d be surprised how many clients come for advice thinking their dress will need extensive alterations—only to find out, once it’s assessed in person, that only minor adjustments are needed or sometimes none at all. After the fitting, many are relieved to see how small the tweaks actually are, and they’re happy they only paid a consultation fee. This process helps ensure you don’t overpay and only invest in the work your garment truly needs for the best fit.
